There are three general reasons why we women wear makeup. The first reason is to protect our skin from harmful ultraviolet rays that cause skin damage and aging. Most makeup products nowadays have SPF which shields the skin from ultraviolet exposure.
The second reason why we women wear makeup is to hide whatever blemishes we have on our face. It could be wrinkles, puffy eyelids, pimples, dark spots, an unsightly mole or birthmark, or whatever it is that we need to hide. Makeup conceals and takes the eyes away from these problem areas by putting highlights on the other, more presentable featues of our face.
The third reason why women wear makeup is to enhance the best features of the face. Beautiful eyes deserve to be made more beautiful with a few tricks with the mascara and eye shadow. Naturally pouting lips should be made to look more luscious and kissable.
But whatever reason we may have for wearing makeup, the most important thing to remember is that we should keep our makeup as naturally looking as possible and that we should wear makeup that suits our age.
The following is a general guide on what kind of makeup should a woman wear according to her age.
Teenagers (15-19). If you are in your teenage years, your greatest asset is your youth, so you should wear makeup that plays up your youth instead of hiding it. You are also at that point in your life where your hormones are still trying to get their groove going, so the cosmetic products you are using should not be a cause for acne breakouts.
Given these, your foundation should be sheer, oil-free and water-based. Opt for a natural look by using natural looking eye shadows, and go easy on the mascara. For your blush on, try a gel blush to get that natural glow on your face; however, use a powder blush if your skin is oily. Keep your lipstick or lip gloss lightly tinted.
Twenties (20-29). You are in the bloom of your womanhood, and so your makeup should reflect that. So, go light on the foundation and match the colors you use for your eyes with the natural color of your eyes, your skin tone, as well as the mood you are in. Tone down your makeup when going to work by wearing a light powder blush and a lightly tinted lipstick. For affairs in the evening, like a date, a party or a night out with friends, you can use brighter colors.
Thirties. This is when the initial, telltale signs of aging like crows' feet and fine lines begin to appear. Therefore, you should start toning the palette of your makeup down. It is also time to go a little on the heavy side with your foundation, but wear your blushers in more muted colors. Avoid wearing frosted makeup to keep the attention away from the small wrinkles and fine lines.
Forties (40-49). The signs of aging become more apparent at this age. You should, therefore, start wearing makeup that is kind to your skin. Begin using an oil-based foundation if your skin is dry and put a light base over the wrinkles of your face, in case you have any. Start using concealer creams more generously over the dark spots and dark circles, and steer clear from frosted or metallic eye shadow, especially if you have puffy eyes. Use softer colors for your cheeks.
Fifties and above (50+). This is the time you should start letting yourself age gracefully. Therefore, be kind to your face and avoid the kinds of makeup that are matte-based. Never opt for frosty, shiny or metallic colors for your eyes because it will only highlight the puffiness and the wrinkles. Keep your lipstick colors light and never even attempt to wear blue or red colors.
Makeup is good, but you also have to look your age. Have fun!

Is Your Makeup Safe To Use?
Not all of us may be aware of this, but if we are careless with the use and storage of our makeup, our makeup could end up infecting and damaging our skin.
How is this possible? Most cosmetics available out there have water as one of their main ingredients. Water is a favorite breeding ground for different kinds of germs, and some of these germs can infect the skin and make us sick. Of course, most makeup products have chemicals in them that are meant to preserve the makeup and prevent the germs from infesting in the product. The thing is, constant exposure to heat, sunlight and humidity can make these preservatives weak.
There are also many products out there that claim to be natural and preservative-free. These types of cosmetics are actually more vulnerable to becoming germ cultures since these cosmetics lack the chemicals that are supposed to kill the germs.
Scary and horrifying as the idea of the makeup we are using becoming breeding ground for germs, it is actually possible to prevent germs from making habitats out of the cosmetics we use. We only need to make sure that we are observing proper hygiene in storing and using our makeup and makeup tools. Here are a few suggestions for use and storage of makeup:
1. Keep the makeup products and tools stored in a place that is cool and dry. Exposing these products to direct sunlight should also be avoided.
2. Makeup containers should be closed tightly when not in use.
3. Pencils, whether eyebrow pencils, lip-liners or eye-liners, should always be covered tightly when in storage and sharpened after every use.
4. Products that come in stick form, such as stick foundations and blushes, should be wiped off thoroughly with a clean tissue after every application.
5. Avoid using makeup if suffering from any kind of skin infection. Whatever items that are used during an outbreak should be thrown away, or the infection will only keep recurring.
6. When putting on makeup, use disposable applicators that are clean and dry rather than our own fingers.
7. Never share makeup and makeup tools, even with your mothers, sisters or closest girlfriends.
8. If the product changes in color, texture, smell or even taste, dispose of the product and shop for a new one.
9. If the product's consistency is no longer the same as it was when it was new, never add water or saliva to makeup. Just throw it away and get a new one.
10. We should also remember to wash the makeup tools that we use, the applicators, the brushes and the spongers, at least once a week. There are good cosmetic cleansers out there for this very purpose, but mild soap and dishwashing liquid can also do the trick. We should make sure to dry our makeup tools very carefully before putting them away.
When we buy makeup, we should be wary of the tester products that the sales people have on display. It would be best for us if we do not use these tester products at all. But if we simply must, we should ask for fresh testers, or for disposable applicators, such as cotton balls. We will never know what kind of germs the other people who have used these testers might have left there.
Golden Glamour
Gold makeup is just fabulous. Who does not want to look like a golden girl?
Gold makeup is great because it brings out the glow of the skin. Also, it instantly glamorizes what could have been an ordinary-looking outfit. And what is best about gold makeup is that it goes with any skin tone, making the person shine with warmth and brilliance.
Whether you are going to a party or just in a partying mood, you can still get away with gold makeup even if it is not the holiday season. A touch of gold here and there does not hurt if you want to look gorgeous and glamorous. However, a little goes a long way and the key to putting gold makeup on is to put just a touch. Try not to overdo it, lest the classy look you are aiming for turns into crass instead.
Eyes. Gold on the eyelids make the eyes pop and shine. Put gold on your eyes by applying gold eye shadow to your lash line, then working up to your brow bone. After that, put on a neutral matte shadow on your brow bone. If you want to go for all-out gold eyelids, dot your eyelids inner corners with gold cream, then line your lower lash line with the product. Afterwards, blend. A reminder, though: if you want to wear golden eyes, keep the rest of your face neutral.
Skin. If you are planning on baring a little skin by going sleeveless or wearing a tube top or a low neckline, you can add a touch of warm glow on your skin by coating your skin with moisturizer, then adding a layer of fine gold powder. Take care that the powder you are putting on has particles that are really crushed finely, or else they will look like big glitters. Having big glitters on the skin is so high school, not grown-up chic.
Cheeks. Putting gold blush on your cheeks puts light and life on your face. Your face will look more brilliant and alive with gold on your cheeks. To do this, simply brush on gold powder or highlighter on your regular bronzer.
Lips. A touch of gold on your lips will make it more full, plump and pouty. A gold lip gloss puts in a lot of drama on your makeup if swiped lightly over a dark shade of lipstick. Just dab the stuff on the center of your lip though, rather than coating your entire lips with it.
Whatever tone of skin that you may have, putting on a touch of gold will make it shine with warmth and glow with glamour. A touch of gold will also add character and drama to your entire look, giving you a face that no one has undoubtedly seen before. Whether it is for a night out for partying or just a general party mood, gold makeup is something special that you can always get away with, even if it is not the holiday season.
Heat and Humidity Defying Makeup Tips
Time and again purses left in automobiles result in molten lipsticks, smeary eye shadow and super-sticky mascara. Makeup applied to one's face fails to fare much better, with smudgy eye makeup and smeary foundation rubbing off every which way.
Looking your best becomes a bit trickier when the warmer weather teases your tresses and melts your makeup quicker than you can bat an eye. A fully made-up mug may not be conducive to looking fresh and fabulous on a hot, sticky day, but a few heatproof makeup tricks and tips could really help you save face, literally!
Lip smackin' fun, refreshing spray and sun protection
For a cool, tasty treat, keep a stick or two of your favorite lip balm in the refrigerator. Fruity favorites become even more refreshing when chilled. Many brands of Chap Stick, lip gloss, lip balm and other lip treatments now offer products with SPF 15 to prevent burned lips. Keep an eye out for these sweet treats, as few things taste worse than burnt lips!
While adding items to your refrigerator, consider placing an invigorating body spray in the fridge to chill for a super-uplifting pick-me-up during the day's hottest hours. For skin protection from the sun, also keep an eye out for special facial and body lotions that contain sunscreen along with the beauty ingredients for soft skin, greaseless feel and a nice fragrance.
Protect your makeup and your visage
First and foremost, putting makeup on while driving is a very bad idea. Full attention should be focused on the road, however it does become tempting at times to steal away a few seconds when stuck at a red light. If you lug your makeup along with you in the car on your way to work, the store, visiting family and friends or otherwise, be sure not to leave it locked inside your vehicle on a warm sunny day. It doesn't take much to melt a tube of lipstick or cream foundation, making a mess all over your makeup bag, purse and your precious car!
Also, if swimming or exhaustive physical activity awaits on the agenda, waterproof makeup may be in order. Mascara runs quite easily when exposed to water and sometimes even to mere perspiration. A waterproof product allows you to keep your attractive look while remaining as active as you want to be.
Pressed powder may make a better substitute for cakey liquid foundation on warmer days, leaving skin feel soft, fresh and clean. If you require foundation every day, rain or shine, consider applying a thinner amount and dusting a bit of powder on top to prevent smudging, smearing and running of the makeup.
Taming your hair
To defeat the frizzies, try applying an ice cube to your tresses. For a new look, braid your hair while it is still wet for a tight, attractive look. If you wish to wear your hair straight, consider applying some spray gel or anti-frizz gel. When all else fails, tie your hair up in a trusty ponytail!
Allowing hair to dry naturally protects it from heat damage, but blow-drying on occasion can aid in straightening efforts and controllability. Special shampoos and hair care products provide relief for intense exposure to the sun and chlorinated water. Sometimes summer days and humid nights cause bad hair days despite your efforts, so keeping a hat or visor on hand may be a great solution. No matter where you go, keep a ponytail holder handy in case you need to put your hair up.
Pretty tootsies in strappy sandals
For a fresh, fun look with cool intentions, paint your toes to match your fingernails and show them off with the strappiest, sexiest sandals you own. Or, opt for a casual and comfortable look with a cozy pair of flip-flops. Perform a home pedicure and flaunt your fabulous feet at work and at play.
Wearing open shoes will keep your feet aerated, preventing sweating and helping to keep your body cooler. Painting your nails outside instead of cooped up in the bathroom gives a nice scenic setting and better ventilation for the strong nail polish fumes. Your nails may even dry quicker if allowed to dry outside in the warm fresh air.
While all these makeup tricks and tips may make your beautification process easier, sometimes it doesn't hurt to go a few days without any makeup at all. Discover your own natural beauty by letting loose, relenting on routine behaviors and enjoying the chance to just be yourself.

Exotic Appetizer Recipe
This healthy, easy, exotic Greek treat makes a fine appetizer, but it can also be enjoyed as a side dish with lunch or dinner.
Ingredients - Filling:
2 cups vegetable stock or purified water
1 cup brown rice
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup grated radish
1/3 cup chopped scallions or green onions
1/2 cup minced celery
3/4 cup chopped fresh mint leaves
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons white wine vinegar
2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/3 cup currants or yellow raisins
1/4 cup pine nuts
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 pinch salt (optional)
1 tablespoon capers
36 grape leaves
1 bunch chives
1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Preparation instructions
1. Bring the stock or water to a boil in a large pot. Add the rice and salt. Reduce heat and simmer, covered with a tight-fitting lid, for 45 minutes. All the water should be absorbed. Fluff the rice with fork.
2. Mix together the rice and all the other filling ingredients in a large bowl, tossing thoroughly with a spoon.
3. Rinse the grape leaves. Spread the grape leaves out and spoon 1 tablespoons of the filling on the end of each leaf, and then roll up, folding the outer edges in.
4. Take three 5-inch-long chives and dip briefly in boiling water to make them more pliable. Tie them around each stuffed grape leaf.
5. Place the leaves in a small casserole dish and drizzle 1 teaspoon olive oil and 1 tablespoon lemon juice over them. Cover with foil and bake for 10 minutes at 350° F. Serve warm or cold.
Makes 36 grape leaves - 3 per person.
Tips:
Grape leaves are not readily available fresh, so you will have to buy them bottled or canned. They are packed in brine, a salty solution that you'll want to rinse off before using. Gently lift the leaves out of the jar, lay them in a bowl, and run them under a soft stream of water, letting the water completely drench the leaves. To dry, lay the leaves in a colander and let them drain, or lay them on a flat surface and pat dry with a clean cloth.

Winter Moisturizing Tips
Moisturize from Head to Toe ... Winter Tips for Soft, Smooth Skin
Flaky, dry skin red, chapped lips scaly alligator legs. From winter's frosty bite outside to heated homes and hot blasts from hairdryers, one's skin puts up with a lot when the colder months roll in.
Moisturize for a smooth, beautiful visage
During the chillier months of the year, you may notice the skin on your face becomes especially dry in some places. To fend off flaky skin, massage a little bit of moisturizer into your face. Use it as needed, but try to work moisturizing into your daily skincare routine. Cleanse, exfoliate, tone and moisturize your way to healthy, glowing skin!
If you haven't yet picked out a moisturizer to suit your skin, some normal, unscented lotion will do in the meantime, but use this with caution if you have exceptionally sensitive skin. Johnson & Johnson makes a wonderful moisturizer, Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer. This product contains salicylic acid, which works to fight acne while skin conditioners keep your skin soft and smooth.
Enjoy sweet and fruity flavors of lip-gloss and Chap Stick to keep your lips kissably soft. Some lip balm contains sunscreen for added protection from the elements. Try to keep a tube of lip balm with you at all times incase the wind and chill start beating up on your sexy smile.
Moisturize for soft and supple skin
While dryness and peeling on the face becomes apparent immediately, dry skin on other parts of the body may not be so obvious. One thing women should watch out for is dry skin on the undersides of the breasts. Friction caused by bras and the onset of the winter weather makes the skin more susceptible to peeling and dryness.
To combat this undesirable dryness, select a body lotion that you like and warm it up by rubbing a small amount between your hands. Smooth the lotion over the dry parts of your chest to prevent the dry areas from becoming worse. Just before bedtime and just after getting out of the shower are great times to moisturize!
Moisturize for sleek, sexy legs
Just like your face and chest, your legs become more susceptible to dryness in the winter, too. A great way to keep your legs silky smooth - invest in some shaving cream with extra moisturizer added. If you can bear it, also consider shaving less frequently. If your legs will be safely tucked inside pants all day, you might be better off shaving your legs when you have time to moisturize them after your shower.
After you get out of the shower and whenever you think of it, slather on your favorite lotion from your thighs to your toes, paying special attention to your knees, shins, ankles and heels. Many people experience cracked skin on the bottoms of their feet from excessive dryness. You can ward this off with lotion formulated for extra dry skin. As you are caring for your lower limbs, take special care to treat your elbows, which often become dry this time of year as well.
The backs of your arms may also need some special attention, and don't forget about your hands! If you do a lot of housework - especially washing dishes - your hands may crack easily. Keep a small bottle of hand lotion with you at all times so you can treat problem areas before they get worse. Treat your skin daily with a moisturizing cream or lotion and you should have smooth, flawless skin no matter what the weather's like
Home Hair Removal Options
Smooth, silky, sexy, hairless. In most cases, society and relationships dictate that barely there and very little hair are the ways to achieve the ultimate in sexiness. But when it comes to ridding our bodies of unwanted hair, what is the best approach?
Shaving seems to be the standby of all time, with quick whisks of the blade in the shower solving our problems oh-so temporarily. Lotion hair removers like Nair and Sally Hansen brand depilatories make a lot of promises but don't always produce the results they pledge. At-home waxing kits can be very time consuming, but if executed properly, you can be hair-free for weeks if not months.
Your personal needs will best determine which method of hair removal is right for you. Consider the following product report cards, featuring the pros and cons, risks and efficacy.
Shaving Costs: Inexpensive, but it adds up over time. Razors and shaving cream; $5 - $10 per month or less.
Time Required: Anywhere from five minutes to a half-hour or more
Results Last: One to three days; Results vary from person to person. I personally shave every day because the hair typically tends to grow back by the end of a 24-hour period.
Risks: The only real risks involve nicking your skin by shaving carelessly. If deep enough, those nicks may cause scarring.
Pros: Inexpensive, fairly easy to do, no true dangers involved, generally very effective even if only temporarily
Cons: Results don't last very long. It becomes frustrating when you have to shave every day or suffer with stubbly legs, etc. If you get goose bumps, watch out! Stubble is sure to follow.
Lotion Hair Removal
Costs: Typically less than $10, possibly less than $5
Time Required: 10 minutes to a half-hour, possibly longer
Results Last: I have not been successful in achieving favorable results as of yet. According to those who have achieved success with such depilatories, results may last longer than shaving.
Risks: Irritation, allergic reaction, chemical burns, possible lack of results; Follow directions very closely to avoid problems.
Pros: If it works, it is a nice alternative to shaving because it minimizes the risk of nicks and cuts. Also, depilatories can produce results that last longer than shaving if effective.
Cons: Takes longer than shaving. Doesn't always produce proper results. Can cause irritation or damage to skin, especially small red bumps along the hair follicles. Often carries an unpleasant odor.
Waxing Costs: Moderate in price; Costs do add up over time. At-home waxing kits typically cost anywhere from $5 to $20+ each.
Time Required: HOURS - No kidding, but try to split up the areas of your body and apply the wax on different days if you are doing an at-home waxing. In other words, don't try to wax your legs, bikini line and underarms all in the same day unless you want a headache!
Results Last: Results last anywhere from three weeks to two months, depending on the effectiveness of the treatment. Risks: Waxing doesn't carry too many risks with it; women applying this hair removal treatment should be careful not to burn themselves by heating the wax at too high a temperature. Also, be sure to test the wax on a small area prior to use in case of allergic reaction.
Pros: What a nice change from shaving! Waxing prevents stubble from coming through until the hairs physically grow back. Smoothness and silkiness endure, leaving your body hair-free and super sexy. At-home treatments are moderately priced and well worth the time it takes to perform the procedure.
Cons: The time involved to remove hair can be tiresome, but it was well worth it to me. Sometimes the wax can be difficult to handle, and at times it doesn't effectively remove all the hair. Frequent trips to the microwave to reheat the wax become annoying.
Diet Changes to Reduce Acne
Acne is one of the most common skin complaints that affects most people during teenage years but also extends into adult life.
Heredity, stress and hormones influence the appearance of inflamed hair follicles, which result in acne breakouts. Diet changes can be helpful in reducing acne:
Eat more antioxidant-rich foods, including fruits and vegetables.
Include omega-3 fatty acids like wild Alaskan salmon or freshly ground flaxseeds to help reduce and prevent inflammation.
Drink lots of water to keep the skin hydrated and healthy.
Limit processed and refined foods, and opt for whole, healthful foods instead.
Looking Great at 40
As the adage goes, life begins at 40. Your face may no longer glow with youth like it did when you were still in your twenties, and your body may no longer be as supple as it used to be. Probably, there are some sags and bulges where none used to be.
But despite the ravages of time on her physique, the fact is that a woman in her 40s is much more interesting than a woman in her twenties. She is more seasoned, poised, confident and wise. She knows what she wants and is not afraid to go for it. She has a more definite sense of style that is, if she allowed herself to develop it.
Sadly, many women simply let themselves go when they reach their 40s. They no longer bother to update their hairstyle and wardrobes. A woman in her 40s may think that because she is not getting any younger anymore, there is no longer any purpose to going out of her way to make herself look good. But that shouldn't be the case. There is no reason why a woman in her 40s can't look good. It's just a way of knowing how.
The first step to looking fabulous at 40 is accepting that you are no longer young and that you cannot turn back the time. The most sophisticated methods of nipping and tucking and other forms of cosmetic surgery will not stop your aging. Face it and let yourself age gracefully.
In relation to this, bear in mind that whatever worked for you in your twenties will no longer work for you now. You shouldn't worry anymore about following fashion trends either, which has always been more geared towards the young. Besides, dressing young will only have the opposite effect on you: it will just emphasize your age and make you look old. Instead, you should start developing a signature style for yourself.
As you settle into your 40s, there are a few things you should start avoiding. A mini-skirt is one of them. Sure, your legs may still look great. Legs always look great because they are among the parts of our body that age the slowest, but there is nothing sadder to look at than a woman in her 40s wearing those short skirts. Also, try to stay clear of baggy clothes, and instead opt for clothes that would flatter your body's shape, despite the thickening and the sags.
Once you begin to realize that you do indeed have to start letting go of your young-ish ways and to begin dressing your age, like a stylish woman in her 40s, here are tips that will help you create your signature look:
Change your hairstyle to something short. Our hair begins to thin as we age, and keeping your hair short gives it a lift and body.
Lighten up and wear lighter colors near your face. Soft colors, like white, beige and the pastels bring light to your face and lend a glow to it. You can still wear dark colors, but avoid bringing them close to your face.
Begin wearing collars that hide the wrinkles of your neck and bring attention to your face. A turned-up or a stand-up collar perhaps, or a turtleneck, will do the trick.
If you have seen Laws of Attraction, that movie where Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore played opposing divorce lawyers who eventually fell in love with each other, you would be familiar with the words of Julianne Moore's mother's character: The shoulders are always the last to go. She is right. Along with the legs, the shoulders are slow to age. You can wear clothes that flatter your shoulders.
Bring attention to your legs. Mini-skirts are a no-no, but you can achieve this nonetheless by wearing nice, knee-length skirts with sexy shoes.
Emulate the styles of Hollywood women who are in their 40s yet still look fabulous.
Life does begin at 40. You may not be young anymore, but you have the poise, the style, the grace and the confidence lacking from women in their 20s. At 40, the best is yet to come and you still have a long way to go.
A beautiful woman is not just a woman who has a comely face and a shapely body. She must be a person whose soul glows with an inner light, who has depth in mind, and who is clean from head to foot.
You may not think much of it, but once someone takes more than a passing glance at you, most likely he or she will look at you from head to foot. So it is important for you to take care of yourself and to look immaculate from your hair down to your toes.
Speaking of feet and toes, the heat of summer may have reduced you to wearing flip-flops and open-toed shoes most of the time to make the heat bearable. More than likely, the skin and soles of your feet have hardened due to constant exposure. How ironic it is that the one way to make your feet feel comfortable in the summer heat is also a way that will make your feet dirty and unsightly!
But there are ways of keeping your feet nice, soft and pretty, without having to spend so much on foot spas and salon pedicures. It is only a matter of good grooming, of keeping your feet clean and moisturized on a day-to-day basis.
When you take a shower, rub the hardened skin of your soles, as well as the calluses of your feet, with a pumice stone. Yes, you read that right, a pumice stone. Pumice stones are more effective at exfoliating skin than those fancy foot scrubs available at the market. Just remember to wait till your feet are softened by the water before you “stone” it.
After you have gleefully rubbed the hard spots off your feet, follow it up with a good foot cream or moisturizer. Dry your feet thoroughly and then apply a generous amount of moisturizer on them. Do this before you go to bed and sleep with your feet encased in socks. You will have soft and smooth feet when you wake up.
Lastly, keep your toenails well-groomed. This means clipping your toenails regularly, never letting them grow too long, removing the cuticles and painting them. Nothing is more unsightly than toenails that are long, have chipped paint and are dirty-looking. If you cannot give yourself a pedicure, make it a point to visit a nail salon every two weeks or so. If you are one of those women who do not like putting nail polish on, then make it a point to buff your toenails with a nail brush.
Since we are on the subject of foot care, do not hesitate to indulge yourself in a good foot massage every now and then, maybe once or twice a month. Not only is a good foot massage very relaxing, Oriental alternative medicine has it that reflexology - massage that applies pressure to certain parts of the hands and feet - do wonders to your overall health.
A beautiful woman glows inside and out, and is clean and well-groomed from head to foot. Always keep your feet healthy, happy and beautiful.

Back Acne
Acne happens when sebum, the natural oils produced by our skin, clog our skin's pores. The trapped dead skin cells, bacteria and hardened sebum later on cause infection in the pores, leading to acne.
Acne infection happens not only in the face, but also on the back. 'Bacne' is the term often used to refer to acne infection occurring on the back. While bacne breakouts are more common among men than women, women have them nonetheless and they are just as unsightly and uncomfortable.
Why does bacne happen? Just like acne, bacne results from trapped dirt and excess sebum on the back, aggravated by too much perspiration from working out at the gym, for example, or doing some running, heavy housework or gardening, and then just leaving the sweat to dry.
The obvious way of preventing bacne infection from happening is to wash off the sweat from your skin right after doing heavy, perspiring work and to exfoliate your skin regularly. But if you are already suffering from it, here is what you should do to treat it. First, keep yourself clean and never let perspiration dry off you. Dried perspiration aids to the clogging of pores. Take a shower to wash the sweat off your skin as soon as you are done with any strenuous, perspiring activity. Even if you did not do anything that made you sweat profusely, make it a point to wash your skin twice a day anyway, using mild soap and warm water.
Use an exfoliant, a toner and a restoring lotion to clean the affected area. It is understandable that the affected area may be a part of your back that you cannot see, so it is best to reach that part using a back scrubber in cleaning it. Your cleanser should be mild; abrasive and harsh cleaners will only worsen the condition rather than alleviate it. After stepping out of the shower, dry your skin thoroughly and apply an ointment over the affected area that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
Before doing your workout or any heavy physical activity, change into a clean bra or shirt. Do the same after you are done. Place a towel over the exercise equipment or the mat before doing your workout so you do not acquire additional dirt from them. Also, try to avoid wearing tight clothes, as they will only constrict and irritate the affected area. Wear cotton shirts or tops that will allow your skin to breathe.
In line with keeping your skin clean and to prevent further infection, change your towels, your pillowcases and your sheets frequently. In washing them, do not use detergents and fabric conditioners that contain irritating ingredients.
Sometimes, bacne can get quite stubborn. Stubborn bacne is hereditary. If it proves to be persistent, or is becoming painful or a bane to your self-confidence, you should see a dermatologist about it. The dermatologist may prescribe antibiotics for the condition.
There are oral treatments for back acne, but they contain chemicals that can trigger depression. So they are not recommended for those who are clinically depressed, who are prone to it, or are just going through tough times presently.
Breast Implants
Breast implants, technically known as augmentation mammoplasty, or simply breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman's breast for various reasons:
To enhance the body contour of a woman who, for personal reasons, feels her breast size is too small.
To correct a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy.
To correct a defect in the development of the breasts, such as having breasts of unequal sizes.
As a reconstructive procedure following breast surgery.
Breast implants are the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures followed by liposuction and nose reshaping.
The popularity of breasts augmentation is fueled mostly by women's desire to look the sexiest they can be (and breast implants do result in attracting more appreciative stares from men). Celebrity breast implants are also a big factor, particularly for teens and young women who try to emulate their idols.
There are many different options for you to consider when choosing to have breast augmentation, starting with the many types of breast implants available. The information available can be overwhelming, but once you have chosen a plastic surgeon you can discuss with them the pros and cons of each implant and find out what which would be best for you and your anatomy.
Most surgeons have their own preference of make and style of implant they use. Rather than try to choose which implant would be best for you ask a plastic surgeon for his recommendation and the reasons why. Remember what shape and style looks and feels great on one patient may not look and feel as good on you.
Before you decide to go forward with breast implant surgery, you should also consider the following:
Many of the changes to the shape of the breast after implantation are irreversible.
Removal of the implants may leave unacceptable dimpling, puckering, wrinkling, or other cosmetic changes to the breast.
Breast implants may affect your ability to produce milk for breast feeding.
Breast implants make routine screening mammography more difficult.
Implants cause alteration of nipple and breast sensation.
Pain of varying intensity and duration may occur and persist following breast implant surgery.
Blood and other fluids can pool around the implant causing hematoma and infections. You may end up back in the operating room so that your doctor can find the cause of the bleeding.
Breast implant surgery carries the same general risks as other surgical procedures.
Insurance will most likely not pay for the procedure, if it is not medically necessary.
Take these risks into consideration, consult with your doctor and make sure you are making a fully informed decision before you proceed with breast augmentation.
Shaving Legs
Shaving the legs is part of nearly every woman's grooming regimen. Legs with smooth, silky-soft and closely shaven skin are considered sexy. But while modern technology has brought to us means to make our legs hair-free for a longer term, if not permanently, women still turn to the good old razor to do the job for them. It is most likely because shaving is still the fastest, the easiest and the most convenient way to keep the legs free from unwanted hair. It is also the least expensive.
But shaving the hair off our legs needs to be done correctly, or else we will end up with dry legs that are unevenly shaven, sometimes with nicks and little cuts that are prone to infection, and sometimes with rashes. Legs that are shaven properly will have a nice and smooth feel that can last for several days.
So how should you shave your legs? Here is how:
Prepare the skin of your legs for shaving by soaking the legs in warm water. The best time to shave the legs would be after spending some time in the tub or after a long shower. Getting the legs soaked softens and relaxes the hair, which will make it easier for the razor to glide through and help you avoid getting your skin nicked.
Do not dry your legs before shaving. Just get your razor and do your work right after you step out of the bath or the shower. Shaving the legs while the skin is still soft and wet greatly aids the hair's removal.
To keep the razor gliding smoothly across your skin and to keep the individual hair strands up to make shaving easier, lather your legs first before you apply the razor. Use shaving cream or shaving gel. Soap works just as fine, too.
Use gentle strokes that go on the direction opposite the hair's growth. Take a number of passes over the skin to get all the hair off, but apply only minimal pressure on your skin to avoid nicking and irritation.
Be careful in shaving areas with uneven skin, like the ankles and the knees, and also on scabs, if you have any.
If you are having trouble shaving some areas, make the hair strands rise by pulling tightly at your skin.
When you are done shaving your legs, rinse your legs off carefully to remove the residue of shaving cream or gel or soap that you used, as well as the bits of hair that were shaven off.
Pat your skin dry and apply lotion or moisturizer to keep your skin smooth and to avoid flaking. Also, if you find that you have missed a spot, touch it up at once.
If you happen to nick yourself while shaving, rinse the wound off carefully and apply anti-bacterial and anti-scarring ointments to make it heal more quickly. Never use a dull or rusted razor; using them will only irritate or even infect your skin
Blackheads and Whiteheads
The presence of blackheads and whiteheads on the skin is a common problem for those in their teens and up. Teenagers and people in their early twenties suffer most from them, but even those who are in their thirties and forties can still have them too, especially those with oily skin.
Both blackheads and whiteheads are forms of acne. We may have thought of acne as limited to those red, bumpy pustules, but that is not so. All forms of acne are considered disorders of the pilosebaceous units of the skin, which are made up of the sebaceous glands, the hair follicle, and the hair strand itself. And like all acne, the problem with blackheads and whiteheads starts deep down the sebaceous glands, or oil glands.
You see, the pilosebaceous units are the skin's self-moisturizing mechanism. The sebaceous glands secrete oils called sebum, which are stored in the follicle. When the follicle is full, the oil is spilled off to the skin. The sebum is supposed to keep the skin healthy and moisturized.
But sometimes, that is not the case. Sometimes, the oil is trapped inside the hair follicle instead of flowing onto the skin. When this happens, bacteria develop in the follicle and leads to the infection we know as the pimple. Sometimes, instead of being infected, the follicle just gets all clogged up and forms comedones - the things we call blackheads and whiteheads.
What is the difference between a blackhead and a whitehead? A blackhead is a comedone formed when the opening of the follicle becomes wider than normal. Because the follicle opening is wider, the sebum and the trapped dead skin cells there react chemically with the air, resulting in the oxidation of melanin, which in turn causes the dark coloration of the blackhead.
On the other hand, a whitehead is a comedone formed from a hair follicle that is not open to the air. It is also clogged with sebum and trapped dead skin cells, but the lack of exposure to the air does not lead to the oxidation of melanin, so the clogged matter stays white.
How do we get rid of blackheads and whiteheads? Ridding the skin of acne, not just blackheads and whiteheads, takes time, consistency and effort. It is also very simple. Because acne is not exactly triggered by the food we eat, we do not have to go on a diet. Because acne does not exactly mean that our skin is dirty, we do not have to continually wash our skin. Doing this will rob the skin of its natural moisturizer and will only cause irritation. Washing the face twice a day with mild soap or a facial scrub will do the work. It will take time, but it will do the work.
Blackheads and whiteheads can also be treated using antibacterial products like benzoyl peroxide and tretinoin. Benzoyl peroxide is good for mild cases. It treats the hair follicle so as to reduce the clogging. Tretinoin, on the other hand, forces the closed comedones (the whiteheads) to open up. In this way, the materials clogging the follicle can be easily expunged.
Perfect Moisturizer for Your Skin Type
Soft, supple skin depends on moisturizers to keep it smooth and sexy. Consider your skin type and how your skin responds to different skincare products when choosing an appropriate product for you. Whether your skin is young or mature, oily, dry, sensitive, or a combination of these, the perfect moisturizing solution for you is out there.
Skin Types
While we all need moisturizers, different skin types tend to benefit best from certain moisturizing products that are created with specific skin types in mind. Varying skin types also call for different frequency of moisturizing.
The most common skin types include dry skin, oily skin, combination skin, and sensitive skin. Read on to match your skin type to an effective moisturizing regimen.
Dry Skin
With constant exposure to the elements sun, wind or chemicals like chlorine, skin can become dry without warning. Skin that does not produce the right amount of natural oils also becomes dry. It is best to moisturize dry skin heavily with an oil-based moisturizer. When skin returns to its normal condition, decrease the frequency of moisturizing as desired.
Oily Skin
Even oily skin can be soft, smooth, clean, and beautiful with the right skincare routine. Caring for oily skin is frustrating, but the proper combination of cleansing, exfoliating, toning, and moisturizing makes all the difference. For skin that is excessively oily, a gentle and oil-free moisturizer works best. Also try water-based moisturizers to avoid adding any additional oils to the skin.
Combination Skin
Combination skin can be oily, normal, or dry, all at once or one or the other at random. Care for combination skin with a varied routine. Moisturize frequently with an oil-based moisturizer when skin is dry. When skin takes on an oily texture, switch to a water-based, gentle moisturizer. If skin shows signs of both types, seek a moisturizer made especially for combination skin.
Sensitive Skin
Because skin is sensitive to different cleansers, chemicals, and naturally occurring elements, the best approach to caring for sensitive skin is a gentle one. For the best care and protection, pick moisturizers that are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic. Use as needed.
Beautiful Nails
Much like fingerprints, nail shapes and sizes are also unique to the individual. You may find similarities between your nails and those of a parent or sibling, but fingernails come in many shapes and sizes.
If you've ever looked at a friend's manicure, you may notice that hers does not look identical to yours. Why is that? Well, for starters, your nail bed may be longer or shorter, wider or narrower than your friend's nail bed. The nail bed is the part of your skin where the actual nail rests. Your nail bed may also differ from your mother's, your sister's, your cousin's, as well as from complete strangers. This is because nail beds come in different shapes suited to the anatomy of the individual.
“The wider and shorter the nail bed is, the less attractive dark colors will look,” says Carolyn Cianciotto, the owner of Carolyn New York Nail Care Line. Her recommendations to determine the best shape when filing your nails, or for when you apply false tips, are as follows:
Nail Bed Shape - Best Nail Shape
Short and wide nail bed - Square nails with rounded edges
Long and big nail bed - Square nails with a rounded edge
Narrow and long oval nail bed - Square nails with a sharp edge
Oval nail bed - Lucky you!
When the nail are crooked and have different shapes, a square nail shape is best
Did you know that different skin tones reflect the same nail polish shades differently? In other words, certain nail polish colors may look better on you, or your friend, depending on the tone of your skin. If you don't already know the tone of your skin, you can find out by simply consulting a beautician or your own stylist.
“If a person has red tone to her complexion, reds don't always look good, but if you must, make sure it is blue-red, not an orange-red,” Carolyn Cianciotto explains. “If one has yellow tones, beige will look yellow. Pinks are nice for people with a lot of yellow in their skin.”
“If one has brown tones, she can wear almost anything, but most of the sheers will look whiter and brighter, so be careful if that's not the look you are shooting for,” she adds.
“Get to the salon 15 minutes early so you can try a couple colors on and decide what you like best,” Cianciotto advises.

Brazilian Wax
Brazilian waxing is a type of waxing involving the bikini area. The Brazilian wax removes the hair around the panty line, leaving back what is known as a landing strip or a broader vertical strip.
Brazilian wax is harder than most depillatory wax. Because it cools to become more solid, it misses less hairs. That is why this wax is better for brazilian bikini wax jobs.
This is most popular with twenty- and thirtysomethings - among whom thong underwear is most popular - but waxers say they also see teenagers and senior citizens. Approximately 25 percent of the Beauty Craze salon clients opt for "everything off."
Girls in their 20s have Brazilian wax done because it is expected of them in their generation. It is just as expected as shaving your legs for that age group.
Brazilian Wax Procedure
It starts with baby powder, talcum powder, or oil being spread over the area to be waxed. This prevents the hot wax from sticking to the skin.
Then hot wax is spread over the area from which hair is to be removed. The wax is allowed to harden briefly, then one edge of the wax strip is pulled up and used as a 'tab' to pull off the rest of the wax, usually in the direction opposite of hair growth. The waxer then works his or her way around the body systematically removing the hair from the genital area, buttocks, and anus.
Tweezers are used to remove any stray hairs that the waxing missed. Finally, the remaining pubic hair - "landing strip" - is either trimmed with scissors, or waxed off if the client requests it. The remaining hair may even be in a particular pattern (hearts are a popular option).
The pain involved with Brazilian wax can be mild or more severe and can last from several seconds to minutes. Most who are willing to endure the procedure feel that the result is worth the discomfort. Furthermore, most feel that the procedure becomes less painful with subsequent treatments. Products are also available to lessen the pain, such as topical anesthetics.
Optionally, a hair inhibitor can be used, which will slow the regrowth of hair and may stop regrowth altogether. The results generally last up to two months.
The procedure takes 15 to 30 minutes and can cost between $60 to $100.
Before you get a Brazilian Bikini Wax done, shop around for the salon and spend some time inquiring about the person who will be attending to you.
Reputable salons use high quality waxes that are gentle on the skin. They will follow up with a soothing lotion containing Aloe Vera or Calamine Lotion which reduce the itching and discomfort.
Why Is Brazilian Waxing So Popular?
Many just enjoy the clean feeling that comes with being hairless. Some who did it just to wear thongs or a small bikini, keep it up because "it just feels great"!
Some say that if you ever want to spice up your sex life, get a Brazilian wax and seductive perfume.
Artificial Nails
Artificial nails, or acrylic nails, are very pretty. You can have them at any length and at any color. You can indulge in the whimsical and have designs painted on them. You can even have artificial nails pierced and wear nail rings.
What are acrylic nails? Acrylic nails are also known as fake nails, artificial nails that are glued onto the real nails. A lot of women like wearing them for various reasons. Some women feel that wearing long nails make them feel pretty and feminine, but they find that letting their real nails grow longer instead of wearing acrylic nails can be too much of a hassle. Real nails, after all, can get very brittle if allowed to grow long, and they chip off.
Some women, on the other hand, wish to look their best for a certain special event or occasion, and that includes doing up their nails. Acrylic fingernails painted with an elaborate design are an instant standout.
There are also some women who deliberately go for artificial fingernails in order to put a stop to their nail-biting habits. Acrylic nails, after all, are not that easy to come by, and a nail-biter would definitely think twice before chewing on her exquisitely done nails.
Women who want to have the perfect set of acrylic nails get them done by a professional at a nail salon. However, a session at a nail salon for this purpose can get quite expensive, and acrylic nails need to be maintained at least every two weeks. Not all women can afford to spend that much just to get their nails done.
Fortunately, acrylic nails can be done at home. Doing your own artificial nails at home is not easy at first and it does take some work, but with practice, you can get the hang of it.
Below is a step-by-step process to getting artificial nails:
Clean your nails. Make sure that your cuticles are pushed back and that whatever old polish you have on your natural nails are removed. You should also trim your natural nails as close as possible, but not too close. In case you snag your acrylic nails, the fake nails can tear away a part of your natural nails as well. Such an injury is not only very painful but can also lead to infections. Besides, having natural nails visible underneath the acrylic nails do not look neat.
Some nail experts claim that you should rough up your nails by rubbing a grit filing block on them first before applying the acrylic tips to make sure the tips adhere closely. Some, however, do not think this is necessary at all. Whether you choose to rough up your nails or not, keep in mind that roughing up the nails can damage your natural nail bed.
Once your nails are clean and dry, put some nail glue on your nails and then drop the acrylic tips. Make sure that the tips fit your nail bed as closely as they can. If they do not fit the size of your nails, file them until they do. Adjust the nails quickly before the glue dries so they would not appear crooked. In case the nail glue dries before you could get the fake nail off, you would just have to soak the finger in a nail soak to get it off and repeat the process.
Trim the acrylic nails to your desired length. If this is your first time to put acrylic nails on, start with a moderate length just to get used to the feel and to avoid injuring yourself.
Mix the liquid acrylic with the powder acrylic in a dampen dish, and then carefully apply the mixture to your fake nails like you would a nail polish. Take care not to put any of the mixture on your natural nail bed, or else it could lead to the development of fungi on your nails.
When you are done with that, the last step would be to buff your nails and put on nail polish.
Artificial nails are very pretty, and they last longer than nail polish on natural nails, two to four weeks for the acrylic ones compared to two to five days on polished natural nails. If you need to remove your fake nails, what you need to do is to soak your nails in a nail soak, which often consists of acetone. Soaking can be done in half an hour. Never, ever snap your acrylic nails off because it might tear away some of your natural nails in the process.
If you have acrylic nails, you will need to apply nail oil on them once a day. Also, try not to apply too much pressure on your nails to avoid injuring yourself, and wear gloves whenever you are doing housework. The chemicals in most household cleaning products cause the acrylic to weaken and discolor.

Laser Hair Removal Treatment
It really depends on who looks at it, but hair found on the face, on the back, on the chest, under the arms, on the legs and in the bikini area is generally thought to be unsightly. Such unwanted hair prevents us from wearing some types of clothes, like sleeveless tops, skirts or skimpy bikinis. It also affects our self-confidence to a certain degree.
We women really spend some time and effort into getting rid of the unwanted hair on our bodies. Shaving is the most convenient way of doing it, but also the most time consuming. Sometimes, shaving the underarms and the legs can be a daily chore, and it puts us at risk of having in-grown hair. Some women resort to plucking and waxing, but oh boy, don't they hurt. Besides, they grow back, anyway.
There is a way, however, of dealing with unwanted hair more permanently, and that is undergoing laser hair removal treatment. In laser hair removal treatment, a dermatological surgeon focuses a laser on the part of the skin that is to be treated. The laser then creates a reaction in the melanin in the hair follicles of the treated area. The reaction is supposed to make the hair strand shed and to discourage the hair follicle from producing new cells that will lead to hair growth. Laser hair removal treatment takes four to six sessions to complete, as hair enters different phases of growth.
Laser hair removal treatment, however, works best only with people who have fair skin and dark hair. The laser machine is set to react to the melanin in the skin, so dark-skinned people stand the risk of having their skin being burned by the laser. The laser focused by the machine also generally does not react to blond or red hair, because hair with such colors does not have enough melanin in the strands.
If you think you are a good candidate for laser hair removal treatment, the first thing you should do is to check out the dermatological clinics in your area. You can come up with a list from the phone directory or from the Internet. Look for a clinic where the one operating the laser machine is a real doctor specializing in dermatology or cosmetic surgery. If you are comfortable with it, you can also go for clinics where the machine is run by technicians, as long as there is a doctor supervising the session. Read reviews as you make your list, or you can ask your friends or family members who have undergone the treatment for recommendations.
Once you have picked a clinic, the next step would be to make an initial consultation with the doctor of your choice. Visit the clinic and take note of how clean the premises are and how friendly and helpful the personnel in the clinic are. When you come face to face with the doctor, ask him questions about the field he or she is in, about the machine he or she is using, and the credentials he or she has. Ask as well what form of payment the clinic accepts.
If you already feel confident with your choice, then go ahead and make a schedule for your first session. On every session, all the people involved in the treatment - the doctor, the technician and you - should be wearing eye protection. After all, it is laser you people will be handling, so it is important to keep the eyes protected on every treatment. The treatment is not really painful, but the doctor or the technician will nonetheless apply a gel on your skin to make it numb.
The parameters of the laser hair removal treatment, such as the condition of the skin on the area to be treated and the condition of the hair, will be entered into the machine. The laser will then be allowed to pulse on the skin briefly to check if the data entered on the machine is correct, and then the treatment commences.
After every session, take a couple of days off to rest if you think it is necessary. Keep the treated area clean and moisturized, and use only products that are gentle on the skin. Avoid exposing yourself to the sun, because if your skin gets darker, the effectiveness of the succeeding sessions might lessen considerably. If there is a little swelling, apply an ice pack or cover the skin with soft and clean cloths soaked in ice water to relieve the swelling.
It is possible for complications to arise after each session of the treatment. If the swelling does not go away and blistering of the skin is present, you should go and see the doctor who did the treatment on you as much as possible. They should be equipped to handle such complications. Laser hair removal treatment is a good way of getting rid of unwanted hair permanently. However, you must remember that this treatment is not for everybody. Consider your choices carefully before going through the process.
Hair Color
Time for something new and appealing! One of the easiest and quickest changes to your personal appearance that you can make is a new hair color. Why not take advantage of a prominent feature and revitalize your hair with new coloring that provides a new and dashing look to set you apart from the rest of the crowd. A new shade of hair color can provide a bold and fresh look that has everyone doing a double take, and saying, “Who is that beautiful woman?”
Remember that in order to look beautiful, a little bit of effort is required. Otherwise, the beast will emerge. No one, or at least no one in the mainstream of things, wants to parade around with orange hair. Several strategies may help you with your selection of hair color. A natural look means a natural beauty so be sure to do your homework before opening the bottle with the magical potion.
Know what color hair you truly have and be aware of your own skin coloring as well. Select a shade that will compliment what you already have to offer! Indeed, there is nothing that will turn a day into a bad hair day quicker than a totally unresearched and poorly chosen hair color.
Two shades darker or two shades lighter will create the desired effect without too much of a change. If you want to make a drastic change in your hair color, it is probably best to visit a professional rather than do it yourself.
If you are unsure about coloring your hair:Look for a temporary product that provides an easy wash out in order to sample what that color would be like. Test a small section of your hair and allow it to dry completely before deciding if that's the right color.
Pick up tips by talking to other women who have colored their hair.
Try a few highlights instead.
Once you have decided what color would both compliment and add a new sense of flavor to your life, investigate which brand and color will achieve the desired results. Read the box directions. Remember that longer hair may require more than one box. Treated hair, such as permed, will process the color more quickly, as will hair that is closer to the scalp, so you do not want to leave it on too long. Keep contact brief unless you want everyone asking, “Who is that girl with green hair?”
Now that your hair is colored, here are some tips to keep it beautiful.
Be sure and buy specifically formulated shampoo and conditioner that will help rather than harm your color treated hair.
Remember that daily conditioning is not simply to make your hair more manageable, but also to revitalize the shine and beauty of your hair.
Avoid chlorine by avoiding pools.
Keep exposure to the sun to a minimum, since it can cause the coloring to become dull and less vibrant.
Female Hair Loss
For both men and women, having a full head of healthily growing hair is an essential key to having a good self-image. We spend so much money on products that will ensure that our hair is healthy, glossy and full of life, products such as shampoos, conditioners, styling aids, and so many others. A great many of us also go to salons on a regular basis to keep our manes as beautiful as possible.
The condition of the hair is so important that it can actually boost our self-confidence or aid to its collapse. So when the hair is lost, it can cause so much trauma and uncertainty on the person experiencing the hair loss.
For some of us, hair loss is inevitable. It can be because we have inherited genes that make us predisposed to losing our hair once we reach a certain age. Hair loss can also be a sign of illness in the body, or a result of having that illness treated, such as the way people undergoing chemotherapy lose their hair. It can also be because we exert too much pressure on our hair strands with constant styling.
We should take note that it is perfectly alright to lose around 50 to 100 hair strands a day. Our hair grows to a certain length for a certain time before our scalp sheds it to lead to the growth of new hair. Sometimes, it looks like we are losing more than 100 strands a day, but that could be because hair previously shed got tangled with the other strands and only got freed with the shampooing or the brushing.
If ever hair loss does happen to us, we should remember that it is not the end of the world for us. There are solutions to dealing with hair loss such as medication, transplantation or replacement.
When you go to a hair restoration clinic, you can expect the doctor to advise you to take medication first to treat your hair loss. Or, he or she could diagnose that your hair loss may be the result of another underlying illness, and he or she will look for symptoms of such illnesses in your body. Anyway, if the doctor tells you to take medication first, he or she will either prescribe to you the drugs Propecia or Rogaine.
Propecia is the brand name under which finasteride is marketed. Finasteride is a formulation that is intended to inhibit 5-alpha-reductase, the enzyme that is thought to be responsible for hair loss. Propecia is taken orally, but its effect lasts for only as long as the drug is consumed. Women are not usually prescribed to take finasteride, because it can result to birth defects on male babies.
Rogaine, on the other hand, is the brand name of minoxidil. It is applied topically on the scalp. Just like finasteride, the effects of minoxidil last only as long as the drug is used.
If you wish to undergo hair transplantation surgery, your attending doctor will have to determine if you are a candidate for such a procedure, because not everyone can go through this kind of treatment. But if you do proceed through the surgery, what the doctor will do is to graft individual hair strands onto your scalp, imitating the natural growth pattern of your hair as closely as possible.
For people who do not wish to spend so much money on surgical procedures or on medicine that may or may not work, there is always alternative medicine like acupuncture. Some experts claim that acupuncture works in encouraging hair to grow back onto the scalp. What acupuncture does is to stimulate nerve endings on the scalp and improve the circulation of blood to the scalp. With increased circulation, more nutrients are brought to the scalp, encouraging new cells to develop in the hair follicles. The blood flow also enables the quicker repair and replacement of damaged cells.
If medication and hair transplantation does not work, there is always hair replacement - another term for wearing a wig. Wearing wigs can be fun, trendy and stylish. The really good wigs are now made so that the wearer does not have to fear the wig being blown away by the wind or skewed by sudden movement. If you choose to wear wigs, just take care to wash them often so it does not irritate your skin.
Hair loss can be inevitable for some of us, but it is not the end of the world. There is always a solution to it.
Fun and flirty or professional and sophisticated, the ponytail is a timeless style appropriate for just about any occasion or event. Ponytails look absolutely adorable when worn by young girls and tots, but they also look chic and classy on mature women.
Beyond the basics of ponytails, dozens of variations and fashionable styles await. Wearing two ponytails “aka: pigtails” is a style that dates way back to our youth. Nowadays, creative hairstylists and inventive product masterminds have developed fancy and interesting alternatives to the previously two-story style.
Here are a few styles to get you started on modernizing and accessorizing your ponytail. Just remember, you are only limited by your creativity!
Ponytail Style #1: A Simple Yet Elegant Up-do Ponytail Meredith Boyd, founder of Mere Cosmetics (www.merecosmetics.com), proposes a modernized up-do sans curls. It is easy to create and looks great for any occasion.
To create Boyd's style, follow these steps:
Blow dry hair straight with a paddle brush and use a quarter-sized dollop of straightening balm like “Redken Straight 05” to prevent curls and frizz while also keeping hair smooth.
Part: Make a deep part to one side.
Sweep front of hair to one side and secure with a bobby pin if needed.
Spray the front of your hair with hairspray to hold.
Gather all of your hair back into a mid to low ponytail.
Separate a small section of hair from the back of the ponytail and wrap it around the hair band.
Wrap the hair around the band a few times with one hand, and with the other hand slip your finger through one loop of the band at the bottom in the back.
Tuck the ends of hair through so it's secure.
That's it! Now spray all over for hold.
“An extra tip is to always use hair bands the same hue as your hair,” Boyd says. “Appropriate for work or an evening out for a formal event!”
Ponytail Style #2: The Perfect Ponytail
Martha Creed, stylist of Fantastic Sams, recommends a sleek ponytail accented by your favorite headband. To create her refined look, follow these steps while hair is still damp:
Apply a styling glaze while hair is damp.
Brush hair back into a ponytail with a bristle brush.
Twist the ponytail two to three times to give it holding power on a damp head.
Blow dry hair. “As your hair dries, the twisting of the pony will add some volume,” Creed says. “Spray hairspray in hands so it doesn't get that old fashioned hair look. Mix with spray shine for a shiny hold.”
Accessorize with a headband in any complementing color.
Ponytail Style #3: Ponytails as a Convertible Fashion Homer Prefontaine, owner and designer of Salon Prefontaine, says, “Do it Yourself Hairdos are easier than you think. One thing to keep in mind when you're doing your own hair is to not try and make every hair perfect.”
Prefontaine's three top styles for ponytails are appropriate for many occasions, but they range from elegant to playful in look and feel so you can match them to your own event or occasion.
“Depending on the event, you can either slick it back for an elegant and chic appearance, or you can tease it a little at the top and loosely pin it back for a soft and playful style,” he explains. “Another option is pulling your hair back from ear to ear into a tight ponytail and leaving the rest down for a sleek, yet soft look.”
The current style for ponytails is wearing them low rather than high on the head.
Ponytails are great as a last-minute fashion, as a fallback plan for a bad hair day, as a functional athletic hairstyle, or as a fun and flirty or elegant and sophisticated style. Just like blue jeans and t-shirts, ponytails are comfortable and here to stay!

Layered Hairstyle
Layered hairstyles are one of the most popular hairstyles these days. This style works best on straight hair, preferrably long hair.
Layered hairstyles look great by bringing more volume to your hair and because of the layers, you can play around with colors and highlights.
Layered haircuts result from having the hair cut into a number of layers, the shortest being the uppermost, with length increasing at the ends.
Take a look at these layered hairstyles - click to see large pictures:
Layered hairstyles begin with fringes and locks and then the layers are appropriately given. The layers are then done for the complete hair length. The longer the hair the more visible this hairstyle.
Layered haircuts allow for innovation and creativity where hair color is concerned. A combination of colors can be used for a fashionable look.
Two colors are also popular - a darker base color and a light shade to appear as highlights.

How To Take Care of Hair Extensions
So you've got the all-new look, you've got the long gorgeous mane you've always wanted to have, and you're feeling like a total goddess thanks to your longer locks. But they're not going to stay beautiful unless you really make the effort to take care of them. Your extensions might not be your real hair, but that doesn't mean you should just neglect them. We've got hair extension care tips for you right here, so take the time to check them out.
First and foremost, you have to keep your hair clean. Use a mild shampoo and conditioner or better yet, ask your stylist what kind of products would work best your hair and your extensions. When taking a shower, it's recommended that you gradually wet your hair instead of putting on the full pressure of water on your head right away, which could cause a lot of tangling.
Going to the pool or the beach? Feel free to toss around your newly-lengthened tresses while you're frolicking in the sand or lounging around beside the pool. But when the time comes for you to take a dip, tuck your hair under a swim cap. Chemicals and saltwater can do great damage to your hair. Wash your hair afterwards in case some of these seeped into your cap during your swim.
Don't worry about putting your hair in buns, braids and ponytails. Your hair will still hold up when styled in different ways. Just make sure you use some good clips and bands which won't stretch out your hair.
If you're going to style your hair, remember not to use too much heat because it could turn your hair frizzy. Wash your hair with lukewarm water and let it air-dry afterwards. If you really must use a hair dryer, go with ionic dryers for best results.
An important reminder for you would be to stay away from coloring or perming your hair yourself. As always, consult your salon first and leave all treatments in their hands.
Following these simple tips will keep your extensions looking nice and natural. Best of all, you will get to keep your goddess-like locks for a longer period of time!

Black Hair
You might be thinking of getting a drastically new look. Most times, this only entails a change in your everyday makeup, a new haircut, or a few touch-ups to your wardrobe. What's really guaranteed to up your look's shock factor is getting a new hair color. If you've been a blonde all your life, turning brunette will turn heads. If you've never switched your brown hair color for any other shade, going a lot lighter will brighten up your appearance. But if you go with black hair, then that will definitely give you a whole new look.
Black hair can convey lots of different images. It could make you look like a total Goth girl or make you look like the perfect Oriental doll. Done right, it could make you look like a raven-haired goddess with long, cascading tresses.
Not everyone is cut out to sport black hair, though. Before you head to your stylist and declare your intentions to blacken your locks, go over these few guidelines first.
Black hair is your goal, but it's not advisable to choose a totally charcoal-black shade. Hairdressers say a really deep black sometimes makes hair look fake, so a dark brown-black shade would look better.
Consider your skin color. They say black goes with everything, and that's more or less true with black hair. You could have dark skin, have a glowing tan, or olive complexion and you're going to be able to pull off black hair just fine. Fair skin also does justice to black hair, but make sure you're not extremely pale, unless you really are going for a Goth look.
Take your cue from stars who have turned their manes black. While she's ordinarily gorgeous in every look she's experimented with, Angelina Jolie once looked sinister in black at the 2000 Oscars. Ashlee Simpson used to be an aspiring black-haired rocker chick when she emerged into the music scene. Britney Spears shocked everyone when she dyed her normally blond hair a stunning black. Burlesque artist Dita Von Teese is a natural blonde, but established her signature style with glossy black curls.
Having second thoughts about getting black hair? Get yourself accustomed to a darker hair color by getting a deep brown shade first. If it turns out gorgeous, let the color settle in for several months and give your hair time to relax before getting another treatment. Then you can launch your new look and go all out black.
